Q - My department only has 1 digital mixer, but a dozen (or more) students have chosen
Sound Engineering. What can I do?
A - Early in 2009, we will be supplying and endorsing a 'virtual' mixer from the
professional audio company DB-Audioware, which will allow you and your students to
learn the theory in a hands-on way, using an on-screen desk and lessons, but leaving
the actual mixing desk free until the time comes to actually get the mics out and
start recording. Have a look at the Sounds Active page for more details.
Q - Music Technology? Boring boring boring.....
A - Music surrounds us on a daily basis. It is our opinion that understanding how
it is composed, created, performed, recorded and produced is a fascinating and exhilerating
process. It takes you through areas that enhance and enrich your entire life (it's
no coincidence that many of the top people in almost all professions are musical),
and it gives an enormous amount of enjoyment to everyone who listens to it, performs
it, records it, or is in any other way involved in it. The days of the completely
non-technological musician are almost over, and technology, if used properly, allows
anyone - even the mythical 'tone-deaf' - to enjoy the marvellous and magical world
of music. What's boring about that?
